COREY TAYLOR Talks About Working With DAVE GROHL (Video)
October 8, 2012Shan Man of the Phoenix, Arizona radio station 98 KUPD conducted an interview with Corey Taylor (STONE SOUR, SLIPKNOT) on September 28 at the Desert Uprising festival in Phoenix. During the chat (see video below),Taylor spoke about being one of the artists who recently recorded music with FOO FIGHTERS frontman and ex-NIRVANA drummer Dave Grohl for the latter's "Sound City" documentary.
Taylor revealed: "[Grohl] sent an email to me, basically explaining this huge project he was doing — the documentary around the infamous board that he got from Sound City [studios], which so many people have recorded on, myself included; [SLIPKNOT] did 'Iowa' on that board… He bought it, and I loved the idea that he was like, 'How many albums have been made on this board?'"
He added: "He wrote the song, he sent me a demo of it and I was like, 'This is fantastic,' and I just basically wrote the first thing that came off the top of my head. He didn't even hear it until I went down there to record it. And I laid it down, and he was just like, 'Wow.' Because we did it old school — two-inch tape, take after take after take. And with that board, man. It was really, really cool."
"House Of Gold And Bones - Part 1", the first half of STONE SOUR's upcoming two-disc concept album, arrives on October 23, while the second half will come out next year, probably in May.
STONE SOUR has tapped Johny Chow as its live bassist for the band's upcoming tour behind "House Of Gold And Bones". Chow has formerly played with metal acts SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and FIREBALL MINISTRY, and replaces Shawn Economaki, who bowed out of the band earlier this year for personal reasons.
STONE SOUR will play a couple of festival dates in South America in early November before heading overseas later this fall for a European tour.
SLIPKNOT took part in this past summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival — the band's first full U.S. tour since losing bassist Paul Gray, who was found dead of an overdose of morphine and fentanyl at a hotel in Urbandale, Iowa in May 2010.
The band released a greatest-hits package on July 24 called "Antennas To Hell".
SLIPKNOT's last collection of new material, "All Hope Is Gone", came out in 2008.
